I’ve heard that you know that you’re officially old when you have the haircut you know you will have for the rest of your life.

I’ve had the same Buster Brown haircut since I was five.

I’m equally immature (cough) consistent with who I choose to emulate with my wardrobe choices. Wednesday Addams. Cruella DeVille. Madeline.

All my fashion icons are illustrated.

I almost stroked out when I found this vintage pattern on etsy. It’s got everything I want in a dress, except, perhaps, a matching dalmation jacket.

Here’s my question: Which dress should I make for the 2011 Spring Palette Challenge?

1. The Left Hand Dress in reds, corals, and pinks
2. The Middle Dress in black calico (full-on Wednesday Addams)
3. The Right Hand Dress in black with a white bib, collar, and cuffs (the tuxedo)
4. Suggest another choice using this pattern

I think you should do the middle dress, but leave it in those stripes (instead of calico). Do a white with black striped material so that it actually looks springy.

I am voting for the left one in the pinks/reds because it is a Spring Challenge. You can wear black any old time, but spring? It demands bright, floral type colors. I would definitely do the pink/reds.

Also, I like the short sleeve for spring. You can put a cute cardigan or shawl or jacket if you need to and not be all claustrophobic with too many layers on your arms with long sleeves.

Not to mention, you have brought up Peter Pan collars several times. Do the rounded Peter Pan collar first. And then you can do the others later.

You are right. This is a fabulous find, this pattern!

I really like the one on the left and picture the fabric being big flowers, like the flowers from the 70′s clothes.

Definitely Wednesday Addams!! I think either the black calico or a pinstripe would be awesome.

I am thoroughly enjoying being lost in the wormhole that is your delightful blog.

I vote you do the the short sleeves in reds, pinks and corals first, then the middle dress (does it have to be black calico? Not something slightly less severe?).

I like the dress on the left. I would go with black and a white color and you could wear bright colored sweaters over it. Plus, the short sleeves will be quicker to finish.

I like the dress on the left, in pink and white, or maybe even a pastel green and white. Then you could put a black cardigan with it for your shot of black.

I would definitely not to the one on the right. It’s a little Puritan for my taste. I dunno. You’re in LA. You do the uniform thing well. I’d say do the Wednesday Addams thing. Why not? If you could do 2, if you have time, do both on the left/center. But skip that right-hand one unless you like being a Pilgrim.

Since right and left are essentially the same I’m partial to lefty because I hate long sleeves. I think the pinks and reds sound kind of stellar.

    Hi Sarah!

This is a vintage Simplicity Pattern #7852. It’s great! I’ve made all three versions of the dress.

I’m trying to find a copy of this pattern in a child’s size 10 so that I can make my daughter a Wednesday Addams dress. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

    Hello myromanapartment,
Could you make me the above dress that you had pictured? I have no sewing skills but I will pay you to make the Wednesday Addams dress in an adult size.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

I found my copy of this pattern on etsy. Etsy is an amazing resource for vintage knitting and sewing patterns. Also, I love BurdaStyle the open source pattern site. You might be able to find a similar pattern there that you could alter for your needs.
