WANTED: Surplus Backyard Fruit For Making Preserves From Freecycle Readers

I cannot believe that I didn’t think of this sooner. Two hours ago I put the below want ad on Freecycle. I’ve already gotten four positive responses!

WANTED: surplus backyard fruit for making preserves

Hi all–

I am a blue ribbon winning maker of homemade preserves. I’m trying to find sources of free fruit in early preparation of my New Year’s Resolution for 2011 of trying to make a different variety of jam every week for a year. (My ultimate goal is to win the blue ribbon in every fruit jam category at the LA County Fair, so I need to test recipes).

Please let me know if you have a fruit tree that gives you more fruit that your family can eat. I will happily come over, pick your surplus fruit, and take it off your hands before it falls on the ground and becomes squirrel and ant food.

Also, while this site is all about giving with no strings attached, I will let you know that there is a yummy treat involved for all my free fruit suppliers–FREE JAM. Yes, a couple times a year, the Jam Fairy will fly down on her fructose powered hovercraft and deliver delicious fruity surprises to your very door step as a reward for your neighborly and environmentally responsible generosity.

So, let me know what trees you have and when they come into season and I will put you on my fruit picking calendar!

Thanks everyone!

The Executive Assistant to the Jam Fairy (Los Angeles Office)
