Procraftination: The September OMFG DIY UFO Challenge

pro·craf·ti·nate (pr-krft-nt)
v. pro·craf·ti·nat·ed, pro·craf·ti·nat·ing, pro·craf·ti·nates
v.intr.
To put off finishing handiwork because you’ve turned your beloved hobby into a chore.
v.tr.
To postpone or delay the completion of craft projects to the point of stupidity.

Are you a procraftinator? Are you haunted by U.F.O.’s (UnFinished Objects)? Does your studio or work space look like Area 51? Is your supply closet bulging like an alien probe? If so, and you’d like some company in your handcrafted misery, please join me for The September OMFG DIY UFO Challenge.

Here’s what you have to do to participate:

1. Choose a UFO from your collection to finish in the month of September. The UFO can be any craft, garden, design, cooking, or otherwise creative project that you want to be held accountable for completing at the end of the month.

2. Announce your goal in the comments section below. For example, my goal is to complete as many unfinished knitting and sewing projects as I possibly can by midnight, September 30th.

3. Finish the project.

4. Brag about your completed work in the comments section below. If you send me photos and descriptions of your Finished Objects, I will post them here on My Roman Apartment so people can compliment you wildly on your achievements. Don’t forget to add the link to your website or photo album to your comment so all your new DIY groupies can find you later!

5. Now that you are on a roll, why not do it again?

I’m in for a rug I’m making for my best friend for her 40th birthday (which was in May). The challenge is that the rug is no longer easily portable, so I have to do most of the work on it at home.

my significant other is out of town, so what better opportunity to make this happen! my pet project is to make hair accessories with found fabrics – it’s been months (if not almost years?!) of collecting non-plastic bases – now to make them!

Another Compacter checking in. I have 3 pairs of fingerless gloves to finish for Christmas and that’s just for starters. I do have the grandmother of all UFO’s however. A counted cross stitch picture of a carousel horse that’s been languishing for 15 years. I only have one corner left to finish so I think it’s time to tackle it. Oh, and the sunflower kitchen towels for my 2nd daughter’s new home.

I want to do this challenge too. I have a sequin art project that I received for my birthday two years ago. It is of two birds should be really pretty when done. Also I have a hard 1000 piece puzzle that is mostly browns because it is of chocolates. I really want to get this done and glue it together. Last but not least, I want to pick the flower seeds from my garden, so I will have more to plant next year. I am really bad about picking the seeds. Many times I let them fall off and mow over them, then wished I hadn’t. So these are the three I want to finish this month. Wish me luck, as I will need it. 🙂 Carol

omg… the curtains in my little girl’s bedroom are a mess. I wanted to do them myself, I bought the fabric, started sewing and… hung them with the sides and the top, nor the bottom finished. they were supposed to be cute, and they ‘re ugly as hell !!! I promised myself I would do it again, but properly this time. I’m so ashamed !!! I have to do this. Thanks for the opportunity ^^
